The MP resigned as Chief Secretary to the Treasury last year after claims he paid tens of thousands of pounds in taxpayers' money to rent accommodation from his gay lover.
He was a rising star in the Lib Dems but quit his post days after the coalition formed when it emerged he paid £40,000 to boyfriend Jamie Lundie.
David Cameron and Nick Clegg have a high regard for the MP, who played a crucial role drafting the coalition's deficit reduction plan during his brief time at the Treasury.
David Laws is to be suspended for seven days and will have to apologise to the Commons for breaking rules on MPs' expenses, according to Sky Sources.
Mr Laws is believed to have been found in breach of a series of the rules by Parliamentary Standards Commissioner John Lyon.
