Illinois Governor Arrested

Illinois Governor Arrested

He’s Back | 4:40 p.m. United States Attorney Patrick J. Fitzgerald returned to the national spotlight today when he stepped to a scrum of microphones to announce the arrest of Mr. Blagojevich.

Mr. Fitzgerald, you may recall, prosecuted Vice President Dick Cheney’s former chief of staff, I. Lewis Libby, on charges stemming from the leak of a C.I.A. agent’s identity. Mr. Libby’s trial and conviction drew national attention and ended with a commutation from President Bush. Mr. Fitzgerald was called exacting and apolitical but earned criticism when he sent a New York Times reporter to jail for refusing to cooperate with his investigation. –JACK HEALY

When I heard this on the radio at 0300 hours this morning, one thought went through my mind..."I bet Brown will not appoint such an Attorney to investigate the Prince of Darkness(£300K slipped his memory) and Slippery Peter Hain(£100K wasn't worth declaring in a race that had no meaning), or shag for rail tickets Home Secretaries, or peerages for money former Labour PM's."
