Willie Paterson MM - RIP
Willie was born in Glasgow and went to the city’s Kelvinhaugh Primary and Hamilton Crescent Senior Secondary. Leaving school at 15 and joined the Royal Marines at 17. He served in various places over 28 years including Malaya, Cyprus, Malta, Australia, Singapore and did five tours of Northern Ireland. In 1964, just two years after a serious climbing accident, he was awarded the Military Medal by the Queen for gallantry in the Aden Protectorate, now Yemen.
Only two years earlier, Willie received multiple injuries after a rope snapped during a training exercise causing him to spend many months in hospital.
Sincerest commiserations to Willie's family . Let's hope we see brother Jimmy and family next month at the 42 bash, to share a tot or two and toast Willie across the bar.
