Not all drinkers are Amy Winehouse! With the costs of drinking in a pub now nearing Continental levels, but pensions and incomes still around Third World, all this lunatic legislation will do will reintroduce the booze runs to go alongside the drug and fags excursions.

Just goes to show how far detached politicians are from reality.

Scottish Government plans to introduce a minimum unit price on alcohol have been described as “probably illegal” and “will be challenged” by the courts, a UK government minister has warned.
With its new majority, ministers can push the law through without help from other parties, although the Liberal Democrats have since reversed their opposition.
Minimum unit pricing is one of the SNP’s flagship policies, but it failed to win over the opposition when the legislation was introduced by the minority administration at Holyrood last year.
However, UK public health minister Anne Milton told Westminster’s science and technology committee yesterday that minimum pricing legislation was likely to contravene European free trade legislation.
However, public health experts have said a minimum pricing policy would have a considerable impact if set at 60p per unit, potentially preventing 800 alcohol-related deaths a year.
