Ma Kellys South Shore is facing action after planning row

Ma Kellys South, Blackpool

A Blackpool bar has been threatened with closure after its owners fell foul of planning rules.

Ma Kelly’s South on Lytham Road, South Shore, was served with an enforcement notice by Blackpool Council after it failed to comply with two conditions relating to
external alterations to the premises, which were formerly a shop.
Owner Paul Kelly appealed against the enforcement notice, but his challenge has now been thrown out by a planning inspector.
The requirements of the notice include that the venue must cease operating as a pub and cabaret bar unless the work the council has asked for is done.
A spokesman for Ma Kelly’s today said new plans had now been drawn up to meet the council’s demands.
Managing director Mick Sugden added: “We have
submitted new plans and are going to do the work the council has asked for.
“We are disappointed, because we have invested a lot of money into the premises and feel we have smartened up the street.”
But planners say the alterations to the shop front “have resulted in a building of very poor appearance.”
They say the main entrance is not balanced with the centre of the first floor windows and the fascia does not align
with the neighbouring
Auctioneer pub.
A report going to the council’s planning committee adds while the planning inspector “doubted it could ever become an architectural gem”, the
approved alterations would have created the right
emphasis for the building had they been carried out correctly.
Plans must also be submitted for sound and vibration proofing.
The case will go before Blackpool Council’s planning committee at 5pm on Monday at the Town Hall.

I have a suggestion for Ma Kellys.  Change your application to become an Open Mosque for Non-Muslims.  You may be prosecuted and convicted of offences, but nothing will happen to the building and you can carry on unmolested.  If you need proof, look over the bridge on Waterloo Road, just a few hundred yards away, for confirmation.
