War is savage - so do not hide it

Pat Tillman must have been every mother's dream son. To be killed by his own comrades must be impossible to bear, but it must act as a lesson to all the politicians.

Soldiering is for soldiers, not politicians or arm chair pundits. Training soldiers takes years and the Royal Marines probably had the best system in the world, until the politicians had their say and the drift drafting into various units was scrapped. So, at a stroke, the expertise was diluted and centralised. Just like politics itself, it sidelined the knowledgeable away from the innocents and the knowledge ceased to percolate through.

a source of both pride and apprehension for his family. America was still
reeling from the attacks on the World Trade Center. 'We were at war,’ their
father, Patrick Tillman Sr, says, 'and the idea that my kids would allow
someone else to fight their battles for them… I don’t think that sat well
with either of them.’
