HALIFAX—Thousands of Nova Scotians remained without power Sunday in the wake of damage from hurricane Earl.

Nova Scotia Power reported continuing outages across much of the province, including the metro Halifax area, caused by high winds and trees that had crashed into power lines.

As the day began, repair crews worked to restore service to roughly 90,000 customers. The number had dropped to about 5,100 by late Sunday night.

I have not, to date, had any request from either of my sisters, living here in Toronto, or their children, for aid after this latest disaster. Without hesitation, as Canadians, they have risen to the defence of this country with aid, manpower and love. It makes an enormous difference from the millions who claim British citizenship and not donated a second towards their adopted nation.

My sisters’ kids need visas to visit their grandfather, now blind and ancient. Had they been Black or Asian, I am certain that they would have honorary British birth certificates for the next millennium for everyone including their enemies across the Prairies.
