Don't get caught out. Tell your friends and get moving, otherwise you will be paying everyone elses bills.

It may not sound much but careful movement and a switch can save a couple of hundred pounds over the year. A weekend away? Sure.

Many people on standard tariffs can currently save over £250 a year by switching to the cheapest online deals, plus get up to Electricty£30 cashback or a crate of wine for doing it.

And it's no big deal: only price and customer service change; you get the same gas, electricity, pipes, meter & safety.

Latest News Sept 2010! Energy price rises are back

For two years no big 6 energy company has increased their standard tariff prices (in fact they've been cut) yet from 1 Oct EDF's electricity prices will rise by 2.6% in most UK regions.

It's questionable if this is the start of new price hike round, more likely it's a tariff tidy up. Yet more worrying is the fact recently one super cheap online tariff after another's been pulled.

However, if you're on a standard tariff it's still possible switch to a cheap online fixed deal to avoid any price hikes AND save a typical £250 a year, so the most sensible precaution is to do a comparison as soon as possible (see below).
