The Royal Marine Association



Last September 2006, an application was made for an Association of former regular Royal Marines to be affiliated to the Royal Marines Association.
This application was refused by the Board of Trustees.
What worth their assertions that Once a Marine Away a Marine is a family?
Like so many families they are those that some do not wish to associate with. As regulars and holders of the covetted Green Beret, there are questions of degree. Parading alongside cadets with their boy scouts headwear is acceptable, but not when they are portrayed as Commandos. Nor is the forming of a Committee with associated members disciplining former regulars.
Just recently Central Office was asking for support for medical facilities for servicemen, a political gesture. This was given unanimously and without reservation. When Central Office was asked to support former Royal Marines who had fallen hard on hard times, are homeless, developed illness caused by the insidious disease alcoholism, stroke victims, those discharged with disability, the silence from Portsmouth was deafening.
No problem Central Office Royal Marines Association. There are former regular Royal Marines who will care for their comrades, even if it appears that you do not.
