Friday night a Riffs

Shame is the decorator was accident prone, but played a mean guitar.

Riffs, a venue on Station Road, produced a night to remember with Bernie Torme and his fellow musicians giving their all. I would like to report more clearly, but I spent the night leering at a fantastic looking lass and realised even I do not need Viagra.

At the end of a memorable evening I rediscovered what my right hand is for…

War veteran, 84, in suicide bid after energy firm hounded him for £6,600 that he didn't owe

A war veteran driven to despair by soaring electricity prices tried to commit suicide when a power company broke into his home and installed a pre- payment meter he did not know how to use.

Walter Bargate, 84, swallowed 100 sleeping pills and painkillers after spending three freezing days without heating, lighting or cooking facilities in the middle of winter.

As tragic as this incident is, the greater tragedy comes when people do not read the article correctly. I publish this reply from a Daily Mail reader as example.
Surely EON have a case to answer in causing this tragic death. I would be taking them to the highest court in the land for millions! A disgrace beyond comprehension.

What part of suicide bid does the reader not understand?

Bell boys from Blackpool going to Africa.

There is a sign in Umtali that reads - the Beach - with an arrow pointing east.
When Peter Walls was head of Tourism, we had wonderful outings in places like Chimoia, listened to the natives singing Mai Whai as the firework display went off all around. Overhead was the continuous drone of aircraft dispatching willing tourist into the camp-sites and the barbecues became part of folklore. Even the Artillery got carried away with the occasion and their were multiple salutes all through the mornings. The hardest part was burying the waste after the festivities. As for the local natives, they didn't have the courtesy to say thank you. Let's hope the Bell Boys have half as much fun, but I doubt it.

I hope they have taken their jabs!
If you meet any of my friends, lay a flower on their graves. You had best have lots of flowers.

Sorry, I missed this greedy pig out.
The sentiments about piggy Humble are reflected in Marsden. Why was I surprised to find his name so far down this list?

Named and shamed: The MPs who voted to keep their generous expenses

The MPs who voted to keep their generous expense accounts were:

George Howarth (Knowsley North & Sefton East),
Beverley Hughes (Stretford & Urmston),
Joan Humble (Blackpool North & Fleetwood),
Dr Brian Iddon (Bolton South East),
Eric Illsley (Barnsley Central),
Adam Ingram (East Kilbride, Strathaven & Lesmahagow),
Brian Jenkins (Tamworth),

Joan Humble, conspicuous by her absence from many crucial debates mainly the Defence Procurement Debate, has put both her feet in the gravy train trough.
When a high percentage of Fleetwood's elderly are struggling to make ends meet, Ms Humble will be buying TV's and other such luxuries - at the pensioner's expense.
I know Fleetwood has a history of social equity, but the good people of Fleetwood are usually not so stupid as to select a representative who shows little appreciation of the plight of the poor in her constituency. If you did not know your MP before, you certainly know her now.

Another attack on the taxpayer's purse.

MPs in new expenses row

Matthew Elliott, chief executive of the TaxPayers' Alliance, said: "This makes a mockery of all the rhetoric we have heard about Parliament reining itself in.

"There is no justification for doubling the bill for MPs' offices - the vast majority of MPs manage just fine with the office allowance at the current level.

Are you looking Blackpool? Do you really care?
A week after watching the two Blackpool MP's cover themselves in ignominy, they are planning covering themselves in self deluded grandeur and build, at the taxpayers expense, their own palace.

Hain donations file handed to CPS

Police have handed over evidence relating to donations to Peter Hain's deputy Labour leadership bid last year to the Crown Prosecution Service.

It follows an inquiry into the late declaration of more than £100,000 given to his failed campaign.

Just shortly after a Blackpool woman was sent to prison for fraudulently claiming £80K from the DWP???
Will some bright spark tell me the real difference between theses two cases?
And how can donations to a non-existent leadership race be legal?
Any answers please to the Director of Public Prosecutions...

Brothers on a mission to help war-torn Africa

Brothers Gary and Ron Bell
Brothers Ron and Gary Bell will be taking part in Project Umubano in Rwanda next month to share their skills, knowledge and experience with local organisations.
The pair are looking for donations to help cover their costs and the costs associated with the projects they will be working on while out there.

I hold no animosity to the proposed Conservative candidate and his brother, we all wish them well.
The sentiments of notyeyavet I endorse. What is concerning is that if Mr R. Bell is such a concerned citizen, why is it that he demanded that one of his members of the Blackpool branch of the Royal Marine Association had to endure the time and cost of a 700 mile round journey, just to have access to the minutes of the Association meetings?
If Mr Bell could not cope with the needs of 50 members, how will he cope, if he is elected, with the harrowing demands of 75,000 constituents?

Gordon Brown under pressure over 'reward' for Keith Vaz over terror bill

Gordon Brown is under pressure to reveal whether Keith Vaz, the influential
head of a Parliamentary Committee, has been offered a peerage or honour in
return for backing the Government’s controversial counter-terrorism measures.

The Daily Telegraph has seen a private letter sent by chief whip Geoff Hoon to
Mr Vaz expressing an expectation that his former ministerial colleague will
be “appropriately rewarded” for backing the measure to hold terror suspects
for up to 42 days without charge.

 blog it
Once again Mr Keith Vaz is in front of the media with serious questions to be asked of his probity. Perhaps, this time, the Parliamentary disciplinary panels will be more robust in demanding answers from this honourable lawyer? The last time these two clashed, Mr Vaz walked away with impeccable credentials by simply doing what his government denies every person in the country except Politicians, and that was to remain silent.
doubt it. This Government cannot see it's own failings.
