More road congestion in Blackpool South

Residents will be pleased to know that the improvements to Highfield Road will start soon.

Work will first start in July on Watson Road. The reason that this work will start first, is that east bound traffic on Highfield Road will be diverted at the junction of Harrowside and Highfield Road on Lytham Road, either North to Watson Road or South to Squires Gate Lane. Diverted traffic will then return to Highfield Road via St Annes Road.

Work is expected to start in August on the stretch of Highfield Road from Abbey Road to Lytham Road. We are informed that the work is expected to take some 16 weeks. The reason that the work will take so long is set out as follows:
1. It is anticipated that traffic will be able to flow from East to work while all the work takes place.
2. The work will be done in short stages, in order to cause as little as possible interruption to the businesses on the Road. Business access to all the properties on Highfield Road will be treated as priority.
3. The work is to repair the road condition, and also to carry out maintenance to the traffic parking bays and upgrade the pavements.
4. This work will include deepening the parking bays on Highfield Road, in order to allow larger vehicles to pass.
5. However, a perminent speed restriction to 20 mph is to be introduced on the road.
6. Some of the pedestrian crossings etc. will now be raised in order to slow down traffic, as required by the Ministry of Transport, when additional speeding restrictions are imposed.
7. It is anticipated that the work will be completed by the end of November.

If and when I get more information, I will let you know.
